Sparrow Shogi Salon
Play full Japanese chess against three local computer levels, or solve twelve original short studies with captured-piece drops, promotions and a sparrow host.
Your goal
Sparrow Shogi Salon is an original, quiet Japanese-chess game hosted by Mugi, a brown-and-cream sparrow in an oversized teal cardigan. The fictional riverside salon uses original ink-wash artwork, modular character acting and synthesized Cushion Counterpoint music. There are no purchases, wagers, random rarity, trading, chat or real-world prizes.
Start your first session
Play full standard9×9shogi against three local computer levels as either side, or take turns with another person on one device. Captured pieces return to hand unpromoted; legal drops, promotion, forced promotion, self-check, double-pawn and pawn-drop-mate restrictions are enforced. Fourfold repetition includes both hands and turn; continuous checking loses. Entering-king declaration uses the27-point convention with28points required for Sente and27for Gote, a safe king in the enemy camp and ten other own pieces there. A clearly local500-ply limit ends a long game in a draw. Computer levels use original bounded selective search, without an official strength rating. Twelve original reduced-material studies require check on every attacking move, with sixone-move and sixtwo-move mates; these are not canonical all-missing-pieces-in-defender-hand tsume problems. All studies and six isolated interactive basics are available immediately.
A useful decision to practice
Choose a piece and destination, then confirm. Drag previews the move; optional promotion offers both choices equally. Arrows/Enter select,1–7choose hand pieces andP/Escape pause or cancel. Large board gives44CSS-pixel-wide cells with a separate native Pan view; Fit cells can be smaller. New owned study clears physically saved and read back add100points each, capped1200, unlocking four equal board borders, two tea keepsakes and the salon ending. Full games, basics, Practice, repeats and restored results never add collection points. Quota keeps pending progress with Retry; changed or uncertain data stays protected. Reset only affects this game. Worker turns, page hiding, lost focus, resize, drawing gaps and portal breaks require manual Resume, including breaks during loading. All games, studies, local art/music and thirteen full languages run locally; optional portal leaderboard, sign-in and ads need connectivity.
